Patterned Imprinted Concrete
Patterned Imprinted Concrete (PIC) is an innovative skilled technique. This method uses colours and patterns to decorate concrete driveways, patios, and paths. This creates the authentic look of stone, slate, or timber. This eliminates the associated high costs of natural products.
Minimal Maintenance
Patterned concrete is an exclusive product that requires very little maintenance. It performs well over other products like flagstones or tarmac. Many problems can be eliminated by using a dolomite subbase and four inches fibre reinforced concrete. These issues include sinking and weeds as well as moss. Alternative products are available. With wooden decked patios, block paving is possible. Wood rot and pest management are also issues.

What is Pattern Imprinted Concrete?
Simply put, patterned concrete, also known as stamped concrete, involves pouring concrete on a base, then applying a colour and finally a hardener. This is quite different to traditional concreting, where you used blocks to create your finished.
The pattern is applied after the concrete has drained. There are many options for prints to choose from, including brickwork, texture stone, and ashlar stones. Patterned concrete is an attractive choice for domestic properties, particularly when it comes to lining driveways.
Good quality print
The quality and durability of the concrete printed is crucial. To properly lay fresh concrete, you need to take extreme care, be patient, and dedicate your time. If the concrete forms inconsistently, it can lead to a weak floor.
Most contractors will use 6-8 rigid printing matsa and 1 flexible mat in a single set. Six mats are needed to cover the narrowest section on the driveway. The flexible mats, however, can be used to access and print areas where rigid mats won’t.
Most printing mats will measure 600 x 600 mm. However, there are many options for matt sizes. You just need to decide how large you want them to be and then search the best prices.
Colour Consistency
If you are looking to have imprinted concrete flooring, ensure you consider the following: The main components in patterned concrete include antique release agents and colour surface toughener.
A poor appearance will be caused by a poorly applied colour surface hardener or a lack of enough. This is especially evident in commercial jobs larger than retail shop flooring.
It may take several concrete deliveries for big commercial jobs. This could result in slight colour variations in each concrete mix. The surface hardener matches the colours when they are applied. This is especially useful for larger jobs that may take several days.
Ensuring Long-Term Durability
The sub-stone base material must be combined with the subgrade (the subgrade, which could be soil, stones, etc.) to ensure that concrete floors will not crack.
The concrete mix used also plays an important role in ensuring that the structural integrity of the concrete floor will last for many years.
This is especially important in areas that receive high traffic such as driveways or multi-storey garages.
Reduce the Chance of the Concrete Cracking
Patterned concrete driveways should contain 300kgs or more cement per cubic meter.
In colder climates, you may need more.
You can also add an air entertainment agent to improve the floor’s durability.
Reducing Maintenance & Maximising Results
It will enhance the appearance of patterned concrete by applying a solvent-based acrylic paint once it has dried. Water-based acrylics pose a greater problem for patterned concrete so they should be avoided.
The sealant can be used every four-years to preserve the look of your patterned concrete.
While it’s not required, this will help to keep your driveway (or any other place where our patterned concrete has been installed) looking fantastic for many years.
